PERSONAL PSALMS

This page is dedicated to the psalms that you write.  Though psalms and poetry are similar - many psalms are poems and many poems are psalms - they differ in that a psalm is written TO God, not just ABOUT God.  It can be a psalm of praise (What I like about you), of prayer (what I need from you), poetry (pretty words writ nice about you) or pain (I hurt and I thought you should know), but the main thing is that it addresses God directly in at leaast some part of it.

Another way to look at it is that you are writing a personal note to God.  It really can be that simple and that informal, and because it can be both simple and informal, it can be an easy thing to write.  Go ahead and give it a try.  You might be surprised to find that you have a talent for it.  And of course, once you've written a psalm, send it on and we'll post it here.

Psalm of Praise
by Robert Cox

My maker sustainer
Protector of family and friends
Giver of strength - To face the darkest of valleys.

His patience legendary,
His love endures forever.

How much do I love Him?
How wide is the ocean?
I adore my God, Lord and King
Asking forgiveness, I bow before him.

So much left undone,
To be put into his hands.
Peace like a river,
His presence demands.

Thanks be to God for family and friends,
My maker sustainer,
The Lord and King.

My Lord, My God, My Father, My Friend

By Dan Shegrud

Written 11/30/2012

My Lord, my God, my father, my friend.

Unequaled are you among men.

Immeasurable are you by man.

Infinitely greater than I and yet you see me.

Infinitely wiser than I and yet you love me.

The universe is your play toy, a minor bauble,

an insignificant expanse,

And yet I am counted as your treasure,

Embraced as your lover, adopted as your heir.

I am the least of the least, the lowest of the low,

unworthy of even your smallest notice,

And yet through Christ, My brother, my Redeemer,

I am spotless in your sight

And seated with the highest of the high.

Search me oh Lord.

Tear down the strongholds in my soul

That stand against you.

Make me a useful tool to build your kingdom,

A beautiful instrument for your praise and glory.

Lord, You Have All the Details
by Jason Cutter

Lord, you have all the details figured out.
Thank you for always watching.
Waiting. Helping. Guiding.
Even if I do not realize it.
I cannot believe you care so much
to pay any attention to me.
One person this planet.
In your universe.
Even if I haven't always paid attention to you.
I have learned to trust in your plan for me.
From that red stop light, to the next phone call I get.
All means something to you.
I have still to know what your master plan is for me.
How can I impact the world around me in your glory?
What do you want of me to help the people I meet.
To help them be happy and successful.
Thank you God for your love and faith in me,
to be your messenger of hope and help.
Amen.

MY LIFE AS YOU WANT IT

By Linda Lowd

God, my life as you want it

And marriage and kids

are on my mind.

I want to be obedient!

And it hurts!

God, thank you for your

mercies every day,

that I can start over fresh.

Am I doing what you want me to do?

I want your heart!

I am afraid of being alone,

without my family.

I’m thankful

that you never give up

on me.

WIZARD OF LIFE

(to the tune of

Somewhere Over the Rainbow, kind of)

By Dan Hansen

Somewhere over the rainbow

Way up high

God still smiles so wide

Somewhere over the pearly, golden gates

Way up high

Somewhere God dreams…dreams…

Dreaming of you

Oh God why, oh why can’t I?

I’ll keep dreaming dreams of spending

Eternal life with you

Why oh why can’t I?

I LOVE THAT YOU GAVE ME LIFE

By Heather Arms

I love that you gave me life, and I am alive,

    no longer dead.

I love how, no matter what I may say or do,

    you stay by my side.

I fear, sometimes, that I’ll push you too far

    and you’ll stop loving me.

I can’t believe you love me

    as much as you do,

after all I’ve put you through.

I’m so thankful that you are love,

and that you show us how to be so too.

THIS ABOUT LIFE

By Tim

It is like life

in time

Is a show we give to many

That is why God

can see

In us

To light the way

to guide them

To him

WHEN DID THE CROCUS BLOOM?

By Debbie Kay Lee Horne

When did the crocus bloom?

It happenedwhen I was

too busy to see

Lord, thank you for opening my eyes

to the first sign of spring

A new beginning!

Winter was harsh, but as usual you

carried me gently through the

chilly, chilly

and the

cold, cold nights.

Alleluia!

Alleluia

WHAT AMAZES ME

By anonymous

Lord, the love you have for me

is palpable

I can feel it pouring over me

Your faithfulness surpasses

all of my understanding

I know you will never fail me

I will worship you, Lord, forever

Because of your unfailing love

Even when I am most fearful,

And now matter how far I stray,

You always love me

Your love is amazing

And I thank you that it

never fails

PRAISE GOD, MY KING

by Stephen Hitt

December 10, 2010

Praise God, my king, who died for me,

From sins cruel chains he set me free,

Early I will seek my king

and ever more his praises sing,

Saved by his amazing Grace,

I long to see my Saviour’s face

With loving eyes he saw my plight,

And reached me in my darkest night

With precious ears he heard my cry,

And lifted up my soul on high

My sins forgiven, and Christ within,

This new life now, I’ll live for him.

For who is like our mighty King

Whose praises I will daily sing

There is none other to be found

Like Christ the rock…. my solid ground.

HELP ME TO FEEL WHOLE

By Anne Arana

Lord, help me to feel whole,

rested, complete

For I am exhausted

Give me rest

You hear my cries

You know me,

you know my heart

You know what I need most

How much longer

until you come?

Each day grows longer

than the one just passed

What if my strength wears out?

I do not want to fail your plan for me

Thank you for your patience

Your unconditional love never fails me

GOOD MORNING, LORD

By anonymous

Good morning, Lord

Humble, I come to you, the Lord, the Shepherd

I the lost lamb, even though I fight like a lion

You come with open arms, not with harsh words

Your voice like smooth velvet, not like sharp, cold ice

Under your shadow I find peace and rest

Not under ridicule or judgment

But under grace and mercy

Lord, I come, thankful, stubborn as I am

You understand

Lord, I am honored to be called your son

I thank you

Amen

OH GOD, MY GOD, HOW

I PRAISE YOUR NAME!

By Kathy Hansen

Oh God, my God, how I praise your name!

You are the very essence of my being

And the reason for my joy

You bring joy out of sadness and

Peace out of pain

I am amazed everyday how much

you bless my life

I see your fingers everywhere,

constantly engaged

And leading me along your path

As I look at each of my children and grandchildren

I see your faithfulness

Thank you for loving me, for saving my soul

And for blessing me beyond my imagination

Thank you for loving me enough

to correct me

And making me go through the hard times

in order to grow and learn

Thank you that I didn’t go through

anything alone

Oh God, My God, how I praise your name!
